The guidance department offers a variety of guidance services, including:
Academic counseling includes topics such as adjustment to Community Academy of Philadelphia, classroom performance, academic deficiency and failure, schedules and course selection, effective communication with instructors, and perspectives on their academic credentials.
College and Career Planning
Every student is encouraged to meet with the guidance counselor in their junior and senior years to individualize the college selection process. College application procedures are discussed at length with students beginning in their junior year. Students also receive assistance with registering for SATs, applying for scholarships, and learning more about the process of Financial Aid.
Students who are not interested in attending college are encouraged to meet with the Guidance Counselor to discuss alternatives (trade Schools, enlistment in the Military, developing resumes for entering the workforce, etc.).
There are several annual events, organized by the Guidance Department, that assist students in post high school planning.
- College Fair (Early Fall)
- Financial Aid Workshop (late fall or early winter)
- Career Day (Spring)
In addition to these events, students are encouraged to attend Open House events hosted by individual colleges/trade schools. There is also an annual College Fair held at the Philadelphia Convention Center which students are encouraged to attend.
The counselor is available to students on an as-needed basis and to parents by appointment. For any questions or concerns regarding the Guidance Department, contact Ms. Kibler, Guidance Counselor, at 215-533-6700.
